BUTTERFLY DANCE ACADEMY HANDBOOK

TUITION

Tuition is due on the first lesson of each month. Tuition is based on a yearly rate, you may pay in nine equal monthly payments. NOTE: Payments will not be adjusted for holidays or unattended lesson. We offer your student a total of 32 weeks of classes. Enrollment fees and tuition are not-refundable. A $25.00 fee will be added to all returned checks, payable by cash or money order. Students may not skip a month of classes and return to class with out paying for the skipped month.

ATTENDANCE

Please notify the academy if you are to be absent from a class. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule a make-up lesson with their instructor. The original class the student is placed in is more valuable than a make-up class, so try to attend the class you are enrolled in. The academy will close for bad weather if the SAISD is closed or if the weather gets worse during the day. If you are unsure, call the academy after 3pm to check.

DROPPING OR CANCELING A CLASS

A written 30-day notice is required to drop or cancel a class. You Will continue to be responsible for tuition until the director receives a written notice. If notice is given after the 1st lesson of the month you will still be obligated to pay that month’s tuition.

CODE OF CONDUCT

All students are required to follow the Butterfly Etiquette handout at all times. Failure to do so could result in expulsion from the Academy. If discipline problems arise, your child may be timed out or sent to the director. The parent will be notified at the end of class. For larger problems the parent will also receive a written notice.

PICKUP/DROPOFF

Parents are responsible for delivering their child to class. Please do not send your child across the street on their own. Students in the beginner level classes should not be more than 10 minutes early for class. The lobby gets too crowded and we will not become your child’s babysitter. Be on time to pick your child up after class. We will access a $25.00 fee for every 15 minutes starting 10 minutes before or after class times.

CLASS VISITATION

Parents are allowed to watch the last 20 minutes of class on Parent Audit Day. The Audit day is held on the last week of the months of September, October, January and February. If grandparents come from out of town, we will make an exception. Please let the instructor know at least a week in advance if possible. Due to space limitations we must limit visitors to 4 people per student.

Performance Awards are held in December. This is a small performance that parents and grandparents may attend. This performance is held in the Academy. Please check our calendar for dates and times.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

We at Butterfly Dance Academy hope you will be active in your child’s dance education. Please feel free to talk to your child’s instructor at an appropriate time. Sometimes between classes is too rushed so we ask that you make an appointment at the office. We also ask you talk over any concerns with us rather than another parent. You may e-mail us at anytime. Our address is ballerina@butterflyent.com Please read all information carefully. We will have a newsletter on-line and in the academy most every month to keep you informed on the events and other important information about the academy. We hope you will join the Butterfly Parents Guild. The guild will have a monthly meeting at the academy. The guild supports the academy and ballet company through fund raising and volunteer work. Dance Etiquette

1.Be at least 15 minutes early for class if you are an intermediate or advanced student. Be 5 minutes early if you are a creative or beginning student.

2.Wait in the lobby student room until your instructor calls you into class. Advanced students may go quietly into the main room dressing area to dress or warm up. All students may use the dressing room area but do so very quietly.

3.Do not make unnecessary conversation or noise during class, especially while your instructor is working with another student or talking to the class.

4.Please keep your hands to yourself, no pushing or bullying of other students. Continual disruption of the class may result in dismissal from the Academy.

5.Please do not chew gum or eat candy or snacks in class. You must, however, have a water bottle with you at all times. Water is the only drink allowed in the dance floor area.

6.Pay attention to your instructor and stay alert for the entire class.

7.Maintain and keep clean your classroom, dressing room, bathroom and lobby area. Please Keep Your Hands Off The Mirrors!

8.Keep yourself and your dance attire neat and clean at all times. Leotard and tights must be washed after each wearing. If you are age 9 or older please use deodorant daily – Keep some in your dance bag. After school you may need to reapply.

9.Please come to every class; to learn dance you must be in class! Also, make sure you are prepared for every class. You must have the proper dance wear and shoes with you when you come to class

10.Respect your art, your instructor, and your fellow dancers. Please do not tease or laugh at, or talk behind any other dancer. You would not want them to do that to you.

11.Practice you dance every day! The more you practice the better dancer you will become. You are learning an art. It must be worked on every day just like you would have to practice the piano.

12.Hair must be put up in a bun if it is long enough to put in a ponytail. If you have short hair you must use a stretch headband or scarf and clips to pull you hair back away from your face and off you neck. This rule is for your safety!

13.Any child not in proper dance attire or hair properly pulled back will not be allowed on the dance floor until properly attired and groomed.

14.It is a dance class tradition and a sign of discipline and respect to applaud at the end of class after curtsy or reverence.

If you follow all these rules, you will be providing yourself and others in your class the best dancing and learning environment possible. Thank you for your Consideration!
